A cold night and a broken down shuttle bus did not deter Perth’s fans of RÜFÜS from trekking to Red Hill Auditorium for their Bloom tour. Accompanied by duo Moses all the way from Canada and Australia’s own Tora, Red Hill was heaving with excitement which surely kept the revellers warm on this icy April night.
After playing to audiences at Coachella, both Moses and RÜFÜS had a ready-made fan base, while Tora (up first) held their own with their welcoming chilled out sounds, making us want to refill our drinks, and start moving.
Props to the team behind the light show on stage, it woke up the crowd and as they launched into ‘Brighter’ there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. The opening was an amazing spectacle which didn’t lose it’s momentum as they wowed the audience and powered though the songs. ‘Desert Night’ and ‘Say a Prayer for me’ made the crowd erupt into an impromptu sing-a-long and dance – you could see the dressed to the nines ladies valiantly holding their own on the dance floor in their high heels.
Though the night was fated to make everyone’s toes frozen, the non-stop merriment and dancing of the evening rendered the weather moot as RÜFÜS smashed out an amazing high energy set that I’m sure most will remember as one of Red Hill’s best acts for the year. Buoyed by the energy, they returned to stage for ‘Take me’ and ‘You were Right’ allowing the fans to at last exhale after a truly stellar evening.
